About

updated August 23, 2026

kesintimivar.com is a free service that shows electricity outages in Northern Cyprus on a single page. It was built to answer one question:

Is the power out in my area, and when does it come back?

Who runs this site

kesintimivar.com is an independent, personal project run by Fatih Genç. It is not a company, an institution, or an association.

This is not KIB-TEK's official site, and it has no connection to KIB-TEK. It operates neither with the utility's approval nor with its knowledge. All we do is compile the announcements the utility and the news outlets already publish publicly, and make them readable.

For official announcements, always check kibtek.com.

Where the data comes from

The information is compiled automatically from five local news outlets. KIB-TEK's own site is not among them: its "planned outages" section is empty, and the announcements actually appear in the press. Every record names the source it came from and links to the original announcement.

The whole process — which sources we read, how we parse the text, how we merge duplicate announcements, and what we deliberately do not do — is described in detail in our data collection guide. We think a service like this owes people an explanation of how it works.

Why it exists

Outage announcements are scattered: on the utility's site, across several news outlets, in different formats. When the power is out and your phone battery is draining, you should not have to visit all of them one by one.

The site is also published in English. Northern Cyprus has a substantial population that does not speak Turkish — university students and long-term foreign residents — and an outage affects them exactly the same way. English here is not a courtesy translation; it is an equal language.

The archive that builds up over time is a purpose in itself: a record of which areas lose power and how often, which nobody else keeps.

What we are not

We are not the definitive source. Announced work can be cancelled, finish early, or run long. Every duration on this site is an estimate, and is labelled as one.

We do not cause outages, and we cannot know when one will end before the utility does. To report a fault or ask about scheduled work, you need to call KIB-TEK.

Not every outage appears here. We can only compile outages that were announced. A small unannounced fault may never show up on this page.

Contact

If you spot a mistake, your village is missing, or you have a suggestion, write to:

When reporting a wrong record, a link to the card and a note about what is wrong is enough. Missing place names are usually quick to fix.

Costs

The site is free and there is no paid version. Server costs are covered by advertising. We try to lay the advertising out so that it never comes between anyone and the information they came for; the details are on the privacy page.

Someone opening this site during an outage being able to see their district's status without passing an ad is not something we are willing to trade away.
